TO SEE WHAT IS RIGHT AND NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, IS WANT OF COURAGE OR OF PRINCIPLE - LISA ALTHER

If we choose, we can live in a world of comforting illusion.

A few of the "Uptown" Schools:

I was out today photograghing inner city schools of New Orleans uptown - midtown - 9th Ward, Desire and Lower 9th.

I witnessed today some of the most beautifuls schools of achievment and saftey to a Guauntanamo like situtation that absolutely broke my heart. It is so unfair. How could the city not even have enough money to put in plants or flowers for these children?

A few of the 9th Ward Schools:

George Washington Carver High and Elemtary Schools, Desire, LA

Louisa Street Technical College

Oh, the Guantanemo comparison?

The Guantanamo facility is more visually colorful with it's flags - both facilities and areas are patrolled by military vehicles, with the exception of turret gunners in the Lower 9th Ward.

"I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of

racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality.

I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word."

— Martin Luther King Jr.

American civil rights leader (1929-1968), from his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech

In Peace.
